Higher Coombe Farm is a family run farm with sheep and beef cattle contentedly grazing in the surrounding fields. It has been farmed by three generations of the Farmer family since 1913.
The old stone and cob farm buildings are used mainly for storage and for working with the sheep, especially at lambing time in March and April.
We farm in a traditional, sustainable way. The fields are quite small so there are plenty of hedgerows providing food and shelter for many birds, butterflies, rabbits and badgers. The road hedges going up the road from the house are particularly beautiful in spring and early summer when the primroses and bluebells are in flower.
We consider ourselves custodians of the environment and have recently applied for Countryside Stewardship scheme so we can invest more in the protection of the rich wildlife, flora and fauna that make this part of the world so special.
